The Lead: MIT outscored Bridgewater State University, 13-2, during the final 35 minutes of the game en route to a 20-4 non-conference women's lacrosse victory on Wednesday night. Junior
Meredith Arterburn (Cooksville, Md.) tallied two goals, two assists, five draw controls, four groundballs, and four caused turnovers for the Engineers.
Erin McIntyre paced the Bears with one goal, three draw controls, and one caused turnover.
Â
HOW IT HAPPENED:
Â
- MIT jumped out to a 2-0 lead within the first 58 seconds of the game as sophomore
Julianne Flusche (Ridgewood, N.J.) and senior
Ellie Rabenold (Cincinnati, Ohio) netted the goals. McIntyre put Bridgwater State on the board just over a minute later, however, first year
Gwen Flusche (Ridgewood, N.J.) increased the Engineers' advantage to 3-1 at the 9:18 mark.
Julianne Flusche scored 93 seconds later but a defensive battle ensued until Rabenold found the back of the net with one second left.
Â
- MIT's margin grew to 7-1 midway through the second quarter courtesy of a solo effort by senior
Lindsey Gambino (Garden City, N.Y.) and a free-position shot by senior
Grace Ann Carlson (Charleston, S.C.). The Bears ended their scoring drought when
Katie Swart converted her free-position attempt with 4:59 on the clock. The Engineers closed out the frame with three straight goals, the last being a free-position shot by sophomore
Sydney Pyon (Garnet Valley, Pa.), resulting in a 10-2 lead at halftime.
Â
- The hosts controlled the action in the third quarter as they recorded six unanswered goals. Gambino produced two goals while Arterburn notched one goal and one assist.
Â
- Blasts from Pyon and Gambino moved the score to 18-2 at the 11:51 mark of the fourth quarter. Bridgewater State responded with a player-advantage free-position goal from
Savannah Herrington over two minutes later.
Julianne Flusche set up Gambino for her fifth goal of the night with 6:22 on the clock and then Arterburn recorded a player-advantage free-position goal three minutes later.
Delaney Langton capped the scoring with an unassisted marker with 29 seconds left to play.
Â
