O'Connor responded with another unassisted marker, bringing the visitors within 7-6 at halftime.

Newton provided the first two goals as Andresen recorded the next two. Rabenold narrowed the gap to 10-8 on a free-position shot at the 7:41 mark, but a defensive battle ensued until O'Connor found the back of the net with 1:34 on the clock. Senior Grace Ann Carlson (Charleston, S.C.) ended MIT's scoring drought courtesy of a free-position shot with 48 seconds to go and then Rabenold quickly brought the hosts within one (11-10). Springfield won the ensuing draw and Johnson set up Isabella Mazzi for the goal with two seconds remaining.
