Sam Engebretson (Sioux Falls, S.D.), the No. 1 ranked MIT men's track and field team hosted the Sean Collier Invitational on Saturday afternoon. The Engineers also hosted the first Sean Collier Distance Night on Friday evening under the lights.

HOW IT HAPPENED ON FRIDAY AT DISTANCE NIGHT:

- In the 3,000-meter steeplechase, first-year
Jake Cobb (West Deptford, N.J.) crossed in 9:43.53 to finish in third place. Seniors
Andrew Mah (Newton, Mass.) and
Matthew Kearney (Austin, Texas) led the way in the top spots of the 5,000 meters in times of 14:11.10 and 14:24.30, respectively. Mah's time also ranks him No. 10 in the country.

- The final event of the night was the 10,000 meters as senior
Vedang Lad (Plainsboro, N.J.) finished second in a personal-best time of 29:51.67 that ranks him fourth on the MIT all-time performance list and No. 20 nationally.

HOW IT HAPPENED ON SATURDAY:

- The story of the day was in the field events as Engebretson set substantial PR's in the shot put, discus and hammer throw. In the shot put, Engebretson won the event by just over four feet with a throw of 55 feet, 10.5 inches. This ranks him fourth in the country and was a PR by three feet, four inches.

- In the discus, he is now sixth nationally with a throw of 167 feet, 11 inches as he won that event by eight feet, 11 inches. In the hammer throw, Engebretson sits at No. 12 in the country with a throw of 188 feet, eight inches. The mark was a PR by five feet, four inches and won the event by a margin of 15 feet, three inches.

- A pair of MIT rookie records fell as well, including in the 100 meters where first-year
Zac Nwogwugwu (London, United Kingdom) won the event with a time of 10.85 to break the previous rookie mark by .03 seconds. Senior
Jeremiah Budiman (Plano, Texas) was second in 10.92, followed by junior
Garrett Whitmore (Webster City, Iowa) in third in 11.01 seconds and first-year
Nathan Shapiro (Glenview, Ill.) fifth at 11.08.

- In the high jump, first-year
Jackson Bliey (Wilmington, Del.) sent the rookie record by 0.75 inches as he is now fifth in the country with a clearance of six feet, 8.75 inches. Junior
Spencer Yandrofski (Chapel Hill, N.C.) was second at six feet, five inches and senior
Steven Marquez (El Centro, Calif.) placed fifth with a height of five feet, 11.25 inches.

Enoch Ellis (Garland, Texas) captured the 400-meter hurdles in a time of 55.86 seconds, while senior
Evan Schaefer (Frederick, Md.) placed third in the 400 with a time of 50.57 seconds.

- Graduate student
Ryan Wilson (Redwood City, Calif.) won the 800 meters in a time of 1:51.97 as he was followed in second by sophomore
Ziyad Hassan (Ashburn, Va.) in 1:52.91 and first-year
Charlie Glass (Austin, Texas) in fourth in 1:55.03.

- Junior
Henry Hardart (Annapolis, Md.) won the 1,500 meters by a considerable margin on Saturday, crossing in a time of 3:52.04. Sophomore
Simon Opsahl (Redlands, Calif.) was third in 3:57.37, followed by sophomore
Sam Amin (Olympia, Wash.) in fourth in 3:58.10.

- Sophomore
Ian Koe (San Mateo, Calif.) led four Engineers in the top five of the 200 meters as he won in 22.13 seconds. First-year
Nolan Clement (Fullerton, Calif.) was second at 22.14, followed by senior
Mozi Guobadia (Katy, Texas) in fourth at 22.34 and first-year
Jack DeBaugh (Severna Park, Md.) in fifth at 22.43 seconds.

- In the pole vault, first-year
Sawyer Garrett (Sherborn, Mass.) and graduate student
Max Hardy (Houston, Texas) tied for the win with a clearance of 14 feet, 7.25 inches. Senior
Bryan Sperry (San Diego, Calif.) placed fourth as he cleared 13 feet, 7.25 inches.

- Shapiro finished second in the long jump with a leap of 22 feet, 1.75 inches, while first-year
Sean Huckleberry (San Francisco, Calif.) was fourth at 21 feet, 4.25 inches. Huckleberry also finished third in the triple jump with a leap of 45 feet, nine inches.
