The Lead: The MIT women's lacrosse team defeated Smith College, 23-3, in NEWMAC action on Saturday. Senior
Lindsey Gambino (Garden City, N.Y.) powered the Engineers with five goals and two assists.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

- MIT generated seven goals in the first quarter and added nine more in the second for a 16-0 advantage at halftime.

- Smith ended the shutout 40 seconds into the third quarter but the Engineers replied with Gambino scoring on a feed from sophomore
Julianne Flusche (Ridgewood, N.J.). The Pioneers converted a free-position attempt midway through the frame; however, MIT recorded the next two goals to take a 19-2 lead. First year
Gwen Flusche (Ridgewood, N.J.) found the back of the net with 3:12 on the clock and then junior
Meredith Arterburn (Cooksville, Md.) buried a free-position shot.

- Smith scored what proved to be its final goal at the 11:53 mark of the fourth quarter. The Engineers followed with four unanswered goals, the last by Gambino which was set up by graduate student
Christine Padalino (Potomac, Md.).

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:

- Arterburn tallied five goals, one assist, and five draw controls while senior
Grace Ann Carlson (Charleston, S.C.) posted three goals and two assists.
Julianne Flusche finished with four goals, one assist, four draw controls, and two groundballs as
Gwen Flusche produced eight draw controls, two goals, and one assist. First year
Nina Petulla (Natick, Mass.) chipped in one goal and two assists while junior
Grace Harrington (Seattle, Wash.) generated two caused turnovers and two groundballs.

- In net, senior
Abigail Kolyer (Manhasset, N.Y.) recorded four saves and two groundballs in the first half as first year
Molly Dulde (Delafield, Wis.) closed out the game with five saves.

- Gambino recorded the 100
th goal of her career, becoming the 17
th player in program history to reach this milestone. Her tally currently stands at 102 goals.
