Boykin National Title Leads No. 5 Engineers to Fourth-Place Finish

THE BASICS:

- Location: Polisseni Track and Field Complex (Pittsford, N.Y.)

- The Lead: Led by a national championship in the hammer throw by sophomore Alexis Boykin (Clayton, Ohio), the No. 5 ranked MIT women's track and field team finished fourth with a total of 37 points at the 2023 NCAA Division III Outdoor Track and Field National Championship. The Engineers finished the three-day championship with a total of 10 USTFCCCA All-American performances.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

- In the hammer throw, Boykin shattered the facility record and her own MIT school record as she posted a D3 season-best throw of 195 feet, five inches. In addition, the throw ranks her No. 9 on the NCAA Division III all-time list. Boykin ends the meet with three outdoor All-American awards and five overall this season after earning the award indoors in the weight throw and shot put.

- Junior Gillian Roeder (Delmar, N.Y.) earned her second All-American honor of the 2022-23 season as she closed strong in the final lap to finish third in the 1,500-meter final on Saturday with a school record of 4:23.10. She had previously captured All-American honors indoors in the mile this season.

- Sophomore Marina Miller (Bel Air, Md.) captured her first individual All-American accolade on Saturday as she placed sixth in the 400 meters with a time of 56.45 seconds.

- In the 5,000 meters, senior Kirsi Rajagopal (Harrison, N.Y.) finished in 15th place in a time of 17:20.45, while first-year Katherine Sanderson (West Hartford, Conn.) finished in 20th at 17:29.92.

- In the final event of the championship, the MIT 4x400 relay team of junior Madeline Hon (Manhasset, N.Y.), first-year Shreya Kalyan (Troy, Mich.), Miller and junior Julia Howarth (Barrington, R.I.) earned All-American honors with a season-best time of 3:46,18 to finish in sixth place. This was the second All-American accolade of the season as the quartet was also recognized indoors this year.
