Cambridge, Mass. (July 6) -- Six members of the MIT rifle team have been named as 2022-2023 CRCA Scholastic All-Americans, as announced by the Collegiate Rifle Coaches Association (CRCA). The student-athletes honored were sophomore
Jaden Anderson (Alpharetta, Ga.), first-year
Danny Antonelli (Houston, Texas), first-year
Spruce Campbell (London, United Kingdom), first-year
Evia Rodriguez (Ridgefield, Conn.), senior
Jenny Zhang (Austin, Texas) and first-year
Yun Zhao (Flushing, N.Y.) as each were recognized for the first time in their MIT careers.

Anderson, a chemistry and biology major, has been one of MIT's top shooters each of his first two seasons. In 2022-23, Anderson ranked second on the team in smallbore with an average of 529.1 points, including a season-high mark of 549 vs. Coast Guard and John Jay. He was also third in air rifle at 550.2 points, with his top score of 561 points coming in the NCAA Qualifier at Army.

Antonelli is a computer science and engineering major who averaged 501.9 points in smallbore and 523.3 points in air rifle competition over 10 competitions in 2022-23, including a season-high of 557 in air rifle in the NCAA Qualifier at Army. Antonelli's top smallbore mark came in a tri-match with Coast Guard and John Jay with a mark of 538 points.

One of four first-years on the team, Campbell is a computer science major who averaged 494.8 points per match in smallbore to go along with 507.3 points in air rifle in 2022-23. Campbell's top smallbore score was 511 points vs. No. 11 Ohio State, while his top air rifle mark came in the NCAA Qualifier at Army as he finished with 523 points.

Rodriguez appeared in eight competitions during her first season, she ranked third on the team in smallbore at 521.3 points and fourth in air rifle with 541.1 points per competition. Her top smallbore mark was a score of 545 in back-to-back February matches, while she tallied 562 points in air rifle during the NCAA Qualifier at Army.

Zhang, a four-year member of the rifle team, graduated from MIT with a degree in electrical engineering and computer science. In the range, she ranked second on the team with a 550.3 average in air rifle while also ranking fourth in smallbore at 521 points. Her top score of the season came in the opener vs. John Jay and Maritime with a total of 1,089 points overall.

Zhao, a computer science major, finished his season with a 4.8 cumulative GPA while appearing in eight matches. In five air rifle competitions, he averaged 491.2 points, including a season-best 498 at Army in the NCAA Qualifier. His top smallbore mark also came at Army as he scored 479 points, en route to a 455.8 season average.
