- The Lead: The fifth-ranked MIT women's swimming and diving team opened its 2024 slate with a commanding 173-64 road victory at the US Coast Guard Academy on Saturday. The Engineers broke two pool records and earned 11 victories during the meet.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- First-year
Fiora Beratahani (San Jose, Calif.) set a new pool record on the one-meter board with a winning score of 284.40. She also won the three-meter board with 273.60 points.

Kate Augustyn (Eau Claire, Wis.), first-year
Katie Kudela (Matthews, N.C.), sophomore
Lauren Levy (Amherst, N.Y.), and sophomore
Sonia Seliger (New York, N.Y.) led the 400-yard medley relay team to a win as they combined for a time of 4:00.01. Junior
Iris Yang (Seattle, Wash.), first-year
Anna Li (Boyds, Md.), sophomore
Kathy Zhao (Cincinnati, Ohio), and junior
Stella Shipps (Cedar Park, Texas) clocked in with a time of 4:02.60 for a second-place finish.
- First-year
Ella Roberson (Midland, Mich.) took first in the 50-free with a time of 24.49 followed closely by senior
Melody Wen (Cary, N.C.) in second with a time of 24.88. Shipps finished in fourth with a time of 25.81.
- Roberson set the pool record in the 100-free with her time of 51.97. Wen followed with a time of 55.30 and graduate student
Edenna Chen (Colorado Springs, Colo.) finished third with a time of 56.18.
- MIT swept the top three spots in the 200-IM led by junior
Kate Augustyn (Eau Claire, Wis.) in first with a mark of 2:11.55. First-year
Sydney Smith (Atlanta, Ga.) followed with a time of 2:12.57, and first-year
Anna Li (Boyds, Md.) touched the wall in 2:14.09.
- First-year
Camila Pierce (Raleigh, N.C.) notched another win for MIT as she won the 200-fly with a time of 2:12.01. First-year
Christina Beggs (Voorhees, N.J.) touched the wall in 2:13.12 for second.
- Kudela paced the Engineers in the 200-breast with her winning time of 2:26.53. Chen clocked in with a time of 2:27.76 for second followed by first-year
Katherine Yao (Frisco, Texas) in third with a mark of 2:29.86.

- The Engineers will host two top-10 teams on Friday, January 26th at 2 p.m. when No. 4 NYU and No. 7 Williams come to the Zesiger Center Pool.
