SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. – The MIT men's tennis team opened up day one at the Skidmore Open on Saturday. The Engineers saw three singles players and two doubles teams advance to Sunday's semifinal action.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED – DOUBLES;

• In the quarterfinals of the Thoroughbred Division, graduate student Kailas Kahler (Pawtucket, RI) and senior Ryan Xiao (Cary, N.C.) fell to senior Shawn Berdia (McLean, Va.) and junior Nicholas Chen (Oakland, Calif.) of Williams, 6-2.
• Sophomores Shrish Choudhary (Fremont, Calif.) and Siddharth Marathe (Pune, India) defeated senior Max Pogorelov (San Diego, Calif.) and sophomore Aadhi Raja (Austin, Texas) of Swarthmore 7-5 in the Quarterfinals of the Springs Division.
• Sophomores Grant Gallagher (Irvine, Calif.) and Adam Sun (Glendale, Ariz.) defeated sophomore Harrison Gradin (Southhampton, N.Y.) of Skidmore and freshman Mason Conlin (Alameda, Calif.) of Denison, 6-1 in the Mountain Division quarterfinals.

HOW IT HAPPENED – SINGLES

• In the Adirondack Division, Gallagher defeated third-seed junior Chase Kasday (Las Vegas, Nev.) of Wesleyan, 7-6 (7-3), 6-2. He followed with a 7-6 (7-4), 6-3 win over freshman Jack Pollock (Cincinnati, Ohio) of Bowdoin.
• Xiao defeated junior Andreas Chapides (Limassol, Cyprus) of Denison in the Round of 16, 1-6, 6-1 (10-7) but was defeated by junior Max Lindstrom of Swarthmore (Satellite Beach, Fla.), 6-3, 7-6 (7-5) (11-9) in the Skidmore bracket.
• Kahler defeated senior Pieter Breuker (Manchester, Mass.) of Bowdoin 6-3, 7-5 and followed to defeat senior Max Lustgarten (Fair Haven, N.J.) of Wesleyan, 6-1, 6-2 in the quarterfinals of the Skidmore Division.
• Choudhary fell 6-3, 7-6 (11-9) to freshman Kai Chen (Edina, Minn.) of Swarthmore in the Saratoga Division. He followed with a 6-3, 6-3 win in the Consolation Bracket over senior Adam Hidas (Monterey, Calif.) of the University of California Santa Cruz.
• Marathe defeated junior Lalith Suresh (Lehi, Utah) of Swarthmore, 6-0, 6-2, and followed with a 6-5, 7-5 (10-8) win over junior Nika Mori (Kurashiki, Japan) of Skidmore in the quarterfinals of the Saratoga Division.
