CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – After falling behind 5-0, the MIT water polo closed the gap to two goals but could not complete the comeback attempt as No. 18 Brown held on for the 13-8 win on Saturday morning at the Zesiger Center Pool.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Brown raced out to a five-goal lead after a quarter of play before back-to-back goals from junior Adam Ivatorov (Rockaway, N.Y.) and a goal from first year Thomas Ewald (Greenwich, Conn.) cut the Bears lead to two at 3:14 in the second.
- Brown got a goal from junior Ilias Stothart (Los Angeles, Calif.) at 2:40 to take a 6-3 advantage but sophomore Rick Lundh (Rancho Santa Fe, Calif.) scored with 2:06 remaining in the half to bring MIT to within two.
- The Bears opened the scoring in the third before another Engineer goal, this one from first year Avi Narula (Atlanta, Ga.), at 3:28 got MIT right back to two goals at 7-5. Brown scored back-to-back goals to pull ahead 9-5 but quick goals from sophomore Rick Lundh (Rancho Santa Fe, Calif.) and Kieran Kearns (Palos Verdes Estates, Calif.) made it 9-7 with 25 seconds left in the third. Junior Trey Rogers (Manhattan Beach, Calif.) found the back of the net for Brown with one second left to make it a three-goal lead for the visitors.
- The Bears outscored MIT 3-1 in the fourth for the win.Â
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
- Ivatorov, Lundh, and Ewald all scored twice in the game.
- Kearns finished with one goal and a team-high six assists and three steals.
- First year Joshua Woren (Aurora, Colo.) finished with two steals and 16 saves.
