BALTIMORE, Md. – The MIT water polo team earned their fourth straight win over Johns Hopkins as the Engineers defeated the Blue Jays 14-12 at the DIII Eastern Championships. MIT followed with a 22-11 win over Washington and Jefferson.

HOW IT HAPPENED vs. JOHNS HOPKINS
- With the game tied at one, MIT went on a three-goal run to build a 4-1 lead. Lundh scored with six seconds left in the quarter to give the Engineers a 5-2 advantage.
- The Blue Jays scored back-to-back goals to open the second to pull to within one, but MIT responded with goals from sophomore William Ewald (Greenwich, Conn.) and Lundh to take a 7-4 lead. The Jays scored two more goals to make it a one-goal game at the end of two quarters.
- Lundh opened the quarter with a goal, but Hopkins would eventually tie the match at nine with 1:50 left in the third. Jason Mihalopoulos (Las Vegas, Nev.) gave the host a 10-9 lead before MIT got goals from sophomore Kieran Kearns (Palos Verdes Estates, Calif.) and junior Kush Khamesra (Portland, Ore.) to regain the lead at the end of three.
- Lundh once again scored to open the quarter, but JHU got a score from sophomore Owen Bartlett (Newport Beach, Calif.) to pull to within one. Lundh scored two more goals to help MIT secure the 14-12 win.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
- MIT defeated Hopkins 14-12 earlier in the season.
- Lundh led the way with six goals.
- First year Joshua Woren (Aurora, Colo.) made 10 stops in goal.

HOW IT HAPPENED vs. WASHINGTON AND JEFFERSON
- MIT jumped out to a 5-2 lead after one with goals from Khamesra, junior Adam Ivatorov (Rockaway, N.Y), sophomore Andras Beleznay (Delray Beach, Fla.), and Lundh.
- W&J made it a 6-4 contest with a goal at 6:00, but MIT went into the half with a 13-7 lead.
- The Engineers outscored W&J 5-1 in the third with goals from first year Derek Schaffer (Redondo Beach, Calif.), Lundh, first year Avi Narula (Atlanta, Ga.), first year Thomas Ewald (Greenwich, Conn.), and junior David Keller (Long Beach, Calif.).
- MIT pulled away in the fourth for the 22-11 win.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
- Lundh scored six goals in his second straight games and led the way with five steals.
- MIT got goals from 10 different players.
- First year Armaan Gill (Long Grove, Ill.) Â made eight saves.
UP NEXT:
- The Engineers will conclude the Division III Eastern Championship with a 10:00 AM match tomorrow, Sunday, October 20 against Connecticut College. Hopkins will play George Washington at 12:00 PM followed by Conn. College at 2:00 PM on Sunday.
