CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – The Iona Gales outscored the MIT water polo team 5-1 in the third quarter as the Gales held off the Engineers to earn a 15-10 win on Sunday morning at the Zesiger Center Pool.
Sophomore
Kieran Kearns (Palos Verdes Estates, Calif.) finished with six assists in the match to set the single-season assist record as he now has 57 this season.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- In a fast-paced opening quartet of action, the two teams combined to score nine goals, with Iona holding a 5-4 lead after one.
- Junior Adam Ivatorov (Rockaway, N.Y.) scored his first goal of the day at 5:45 in the second to cut the Iona lead to 6-5. After two Gaels goals, Ivatorov kick-started an Engineer run that was punctuated by his goal with 37 seconds left in the half to even the match at eight.
- Iona scored the first four goals of the third before sophomore Victor Perez (Key Biscayne, Fla.) found the back of the net to cut the Iona lead to 12-9.
- The Gales scored three of the next four to earn the 15-10 win. First year Avi Narula (Atlanta, Ga.) scored the final goal for MIT.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
- Ivatorov finished with four goals to increase his season total to 83. He has scored 80 or more goals in back-to-back seasons. Ivatorov also led MIT with seven ejections earned.
- In addition to leading the Engineers with six assists, Kearns grabbed a team-high five steals to give him 44 on the season.
- First year Joshua Woren (Aurora, Colo.) made eight stops in goal.

- MIT will have a week off before heading to Princeton for the NWPC Tournament which runs from Friday, November 22 - Sunday, November 24.
