Football Earns Seven NEWMAC All-Conference Honors; Deignan, Grier, Monaghan Named to First Team

WESTWOOD, Mass. - Paced by first team selections for seniors Jack Grier (Cornelius, N.C.) and Daniel Monaghan (Northfield, Minn.) and junior Lucky Deignan (Indianapolis, Ind.), the MIT football team placed seven student-athletes on the 2024 NEWMAC football all-conference team. 

Grier, Monaghan and Deignan were joined on the All-Conference team by junior Chase Williams (Missoula, Mont.) and sophomores Michael Dennison (Beaufort, S.C.), Caleb Davis (Houston, Texas), and Carson Phelps (Wichita, Kan.). Deignan is now a two-time first team selection (2023 and 2024) and a three-time all-conference honoree in his career. Williams was also a second team selection in 2023. 

Jack Grier | DL
  • First Team All-Conference (first selection)
  • Appeared in all nine games this season, matching his career high with 33 tackles
  • Three tackles for loss were a career high for the senior captain
Daniel Monaghan | P
  • First Team All-Conference (first selection)
  • Set career highs in attempts (50) and yards (1,829) as MIT's starting punter
  • Landed 11 punts inside the 20-yard line while sending five 50+ yards, did not have a kick blocked all season
Lucky Deignan | DB
  • First Team All-Conference (second selection, third all-conference selection overall)
  • Matched his career-high with two interceptions while recording 13 pass deflections
  • Played in all nine games, recording 37 tackles including a pair of tackles for loss 
Michael Dennison | TE
  • Second Team All-Conference (first selection)
  • Hauled in a pair of touchdowns on the season, matching his rookie season total
  • Finished the year with 18 receptions in eight games played
Caleb Davis | DB
  • Second Team All-Conference (first selection)
  • Set career highs in multiple categories, including: games played (9), interceptions (2), tackles (31) and solo tackles (25), and passes deflected (9)
  • Forced a pair fumbles and had two fumble recoveries on the season
Carson Phelps | RB
  • Second Team All-Conference (first selection)
  • MIT's leader in rushing yards (656), set career highs in yards and attempts (152)
  • MIT team leader in touchdowns with a career-high six rushing touchdowns and two receiving touchdowns
Chase Williams | LB
  • Second Team All-Conference (second selection)
  • Totaled a career-high two interceptions, including a pick-six on Nov. 9 vs. Norwich
  • Appeared in all nine games, registering 33 tackles and a sack
