Water Polo Powers Past Connecticut College, 22-7

PRINCETON, NJ – The MIT water polo team outscored Connecticut College 6-0 in both the second and fourth quarters to take a 22-7 victory over the Camels on Saturday morning at the Northeast Water Polo Conference (NWPC) Tournament hosted by Princeton at Denunzio Pool.
 
THE BASICS:
  • Scores: MIT 22 Connecticut College 7
  • Records: MIT (8-16 Overall), Conn. College (7-13 Overall) 
HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • Junior Adam Ivatorov (Rockaway, N.Y.) scored three goals in the first eight minutes of play to help MIT build a 6-4 lead after one.  
  • The Engineers scored all six goals in the second quarter highlighted by two more goals from Ivatorov and first year Avi Narula (Atlanta, Ga.) to take a 12-4 lead into the half.
  • Conn. broke the MIT scoring run with a goal at 7:34 in the third, but Ivatorov and sophomore William Ewald (Greenwich, Conn.) tallied the next three goals to give MIT a 10-goal advantage.  
  • The Engineers closed the match on a 6-0 run in the fourth quarter, highlighted by two goals each from sophomore Andras Beleznay (Delray Beach, Fla.) and junior David Keller (Long Beach, Calif.). 
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
  • Keller recorded his second multi-goal game of the season and has a career-high five goals this season. He also recorded an assist in the match for a career-high three-point day.
  • Ivatorov recorded his fourth seven-goal game as he now has 93 goals on the season which ties his total from last year. His 93 goals are the second most in program history. His 252 career goals are the third most in team history.
  • Beleznay tallied four goals while Narula finished with two. Ewald finished with three goals for his fourth hat trick of the year.
  • Sophomore Kieran Kearns (Palos Verdes Estates, Calif.) finished with a team-high five steals and three assists. He leads the team with 66 assists and 50 steals.
  • First year Armaan Gill (Long Grove, Ill.) made seven stops in cage. 
UP NEXT:
  • The Engineers wrap up the NWPC Tournament, tomorrow, Sunday, November 24 with an 9:00 AM contest against LIU.
