The Lead: The MIT women's track and field team posted seven top-20 national performances on the weekend and won seven individual events at the MIT Gordon Kelly Invitational on Saturday. Junior
Emily Ball (Des Moines, Iowa) swept the shot put and the weight throw to help lead the Engineers at their home invitational.
HOW IT HAPPENED AT MIT:
- Ball won the shot put with a throw of 12.56m (41' 2.50") and the weight throw with a toss of 15.84m (51' 11.75"). Sophomore
Lilia Ould-Hammou (Metuchen, N.J.) placed fifth in the weight throw with a mark of 13.96m (45' 9.75").
- Sophomore
Hailey Surace (Snohomish, Wash.) tied her personal-best vault of 3.85m (12' 7.50") to take the event and maintain her sixth-best mark in the country this season. Sophomore
Katelyn Howard (Lake Oswego, Ore.) set a new personal best with a 3.70m (12' 1.50") mark to rank 18th in the country and place second in the event.
- Junior
Nony Otu Ugwu (Katy, Texas) won the triple jump with a mark of 11.62m (38' 1.5") to post the 16th best jump in the country this season.
- Senior
Emma Martin (North Andover, Mass.) claimed the long jump title with a 5.22m (17' 1.5") mark.
- First-year
Olivia Girand (New York, N.Y.) won the mile (5:16.94) while senior
Archana Mohandas (Thousand Oaks, Calif.) placed third (5:18.49).
- First-year
JoJo Miller (Marietta, Ga.) won the 200m run with a time of 26.85. She also placed third in the 60m with a 8.06.
- Sophomore
Stella Gassman (Larchmont, N.Y.) and junior
Olivia Stoner (Haddonfield, N.J.) placed third and fifth in the 800m with times of 2:28.30 and 2:30.75.
- Senior
Madeline Hon (Manhasset, N.Y.) placed fourth in the 200m in a time of 27.83.
- First-year
Kali Kraus (Temecula, Calif.) was fifth in the 1000m with a time of 3:21.94.
- In the high jump, senior
Tolu Akinbo (Naperville, Ill.) was fourth with a jump of 1.59m (5' 2.5"), while sophomore
Katie Kempff (St. Charles, Ill.) was fifth with the same mark.
HOW IT HAPPENED AT BU:
- On Friday at the David Hemery Valentine Invitational, the MIT distance medley relay team topped an impressive field of Division III teams that featured 12 top-20 performances at the meet. Sophomore

Julia Howarth (Barrington, R.I.), and sophomore
Lexi Fernandez (Stevenson Ranch, Calif.) posted a time of 11:41.06 to just edge Central College for the second fastest time in the nation.
- Fernandez clocked in with the seventh fastest mile performance this season with 4:53.72, which ranks fifth all-time at MIT.
- Sophomore
Katherine Sanderson (West Hartford, Conn.) recorded the 12th fastest 5000m time of the season with a 16:52.31. Her performance is the second-best in program history.
- Junior
Marina Miller (Bel Air, Md.) stopped the clock with a time of 57.18 in the 400m for the No. 17 spot in the country.
