The Lead: The MIT women's swimming and diving team kicked off the NEWMAC Championship by winning the 800-yard free relay on Thursday night.
EVENT HIGHLIGHTS:
800-Yard Free Relay
- The MIT "A" team of sophomore Natalie Tang (Allen, Texas), sophomore Sonia Seliger (New York, N.Y.), first-year Sydney Smith (Atlanta, Ga.), and junior Kate Augustyn (Eau Claire, Wis.) logged a time of 7:26.22, which was almost 11 seconds ahead of runner-up Wheaton College.
- The performance resulted in an NCAA B Cut and a 2023 invited time.
- Tang led off the relay with her first collegiate personal-best time (1:51.75) while Augustyn anchored the relay with her best time of the season (1:49.40).
- Augustyn has now been a member of three first-place 800-free relay teams while Tang and Seliger are repeat winners.
UP NEXT:
- Day two of the NEWMAC Championship will begin on Friday, Feb. 23 with prelims at 10:00 a.m., followed by the finals at 6:00 p.m. Scheduled events include: the 200-free relay, 500-free, 200-IM, 50-free, 1-meter dive, and the 400-medley relay.
