- The Lead: The MIT women's swimming and diving team built upon its lead as the Engineers held on to the top spot after day two of the 2024 NEWMAC Swim and Dive Championships. The Engineers posted five event wins with record breaking performances.

EVENT HIGHLIGHTS:
200-Free Relay
- After setting a new school and NEWMAC record in the prelims with a time of 1:33.21, the team of first year Kailey Simons (Williston Park, N.Y.), sophomore Annika Naveen (Wynnewood, Pa.), senior Melody Wen (Cary, N.C.), and first year Ella Roberson (Midland, Mich.) bested that time in the finals with a mark of 1:33.01.
- The time is tied with Denison for the second fastest in DIII this season.

500-Free
- Sophomore Sonia Seliger (New York, N.Y.) took second in 5:03.89, and first year Camila Pierce (Raleigh, N.C.) earned her first medal with a third-place finish in 5:06.45. Pierce dropped over two seconds from the morning session.
- First year Christina Beggs (Voorhees, N.J.) finished in 5:08.09 for fourth while senior Katie Sapozhnikov (Ambler, Pa.) finished in seventh place in 5:11.65.

200 IM
- The Engineers swept the top three spots led by junior Kate Augustyn (Eau Claire, Wis.) who earned her third-straight gold in the event with a time of 2:02.77.
- First years Katherine Yao (Frisco, Texas) and Sydney Smith (Atlanta, Ga.) earned their first medals with their second and third place finishes. Yao finished in 2:05.18 and Smith in 2:05.28.
- Augustyn swam faster than the 2023 Invited times while Yao and Smith both notched B Cut times.
- Augustyn currently ranks seventh in the country.

50-Free
- Roberson won her first individual medal as she touched the wall in 23.15, dropping .29 off her prelim time.
- She earned an NCAA B Cut and the time is faster than the 2023 invited time.

1-Meter Diving
- MIT swept the top three spots led by first year Fiora Beratahani (San Jose, Calif.) with a score of 509.30.
- Junior Rachel Loh (Arcadia, Calif.) finished in second with 468.70 points and Emma Scott (Belmont, Calif.) took third with 461.15 points.Â

400-Medley Relay
- The team set a new pool record and posted the second-fastest time in the country as the Engineers rounded out the day with another relay win.
- Augustyn, graduate student Edenna Chen (Colorado Springs, Colo.), sophomore Lauren Levy (Amherst, N.Y.), and Roberson finished the event in 3:41.58.
- Augustyn led off with a 54.16 time in the back which is now the second fastest time in the nation. Roberson brought the win home with a 49.75 in the 100-free.
- Chen has been a member of four wins in the event while Augustyn has three.

UP NEXT:
- Day three begins on Saturday, February 24th at 10 am with the prelims of the 400 IM. Finals begin at 6pm with the 400 IM followed by the 100-Butterfly, 200-Free, 100-Breast, 100-Back and the 200-Medley relay.
