No. 28 Men's Tennis Sweeps Salve Regina, 9-0

THE BASICS:
 
- Score: No. 28 MIT - 9, Salve Regina - 0
 
- Records: MIT (15-3, 7-0 NEWMAC), Salve Regina (0-14, 0-7 NEWMAC)
 
- Location: Newport, R.I. (Tennis Hall of Fame)
 
- The Lead: The No. 28 MIT men's tennis team completed a perfect NEWMAC season with a 9-0 victory over Salve Regina. With the win the Engineers have secured the No. 1 seed for next weekend's NEWMAC Men's Tennis Tournament. 
 
HOW IT HAPPENED:
 
- Sophomore Ethan Nguyen (Farmington, N.M.) and Jeremy Yu (Coppell Texas) earned the first point of the day with an 8-1 win over Charlie Cocuzzo and Hoon Kim in No. 3 doubles position and then first-years Grant Gallagher (Irvine, Calif.) and Shrish Choudhary (Fremont, Calif.) cruised to an 8-0 win over Jacob Faulise and Samuel Middleton in the No. 2 spot. Senior Kailas Kahler (Pawtucket, R.I.) and first-year Adam Sun (Glendale, Ariz.) earned an 8-4 victory over Ned Batstone and Alexander Colon in the top slot to close out doubles' competition.
 
- In singles competition Nguyen grabbed the first singles win in No. 5 singles defeating Cocuzzo 6-1, 6-0 and then in the sixth position Yu earned a 6-1, 6-0 win over Kim. Gallagher followed with a 6-1, 6-0 win over Faulise in No. 4 singles as Choudhary did not drop a single game in No. 3 singles to Colon, earning a 6-0, 6-0 victory. Sun clinched a swift 6-2, 6-2 win in No. 2 singles over Middleton as Kahler closed out the match with a 7-5, 6-1 victory over Batstone in the top slot.
 
UP NEXT:

-The Engineers will host a NEWMAC semifinal on Saturday, April 27th at 12:00 p.m. They will host the winner of Clark vs. Springfield which will take place on Wednesday at 3 p.m.
