The Lead: An 11-goal run broke up a tied game and powered No. 3 seeded MIT to a 23-5 victory over No. 6 seed Wheaton College in the quarterfinals of the NEWMAC Women's Lacrosse Tournament on Saturday afternoon. Senior
Ellie Rabenold (Cincinnati, Ohio) amassed five goals and four assists for the nationally-ranked No. 20 Engineers as
Gabs Smart posted one goal, one assist, three draw controls, and two caused turnovers for the Lyons.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

- Sophomore
Monica Petulla (Natick, Mass.) opened the scoring after 58 seconds elapsed and then Rabenold increased MIT's lead 38 seconds later. Wheaton responded with goals by
Abigail Mountain and
Logan Truluck, tying the game at the 8:09 mark. Just over two minutes, an unassisted goal from first-year
Jillian Butler (Brecksville, Ohio) kicked off a string of six straight goals by the Engineers. Butler produced a hat trick during the scoring burst, followed by two goals from sophomore
Nina Petulla (Natick, Mass.), and one by
Monica Petulla.

- MIT continued to pull away as it outscored the Lyons, 6-1, in the second stanza en route to a 14-3 halftime advantage. Junior
Julianne Flusche (Ridgewood, N.J.) registered two goals and one assist while sophomore
Ashley Thomas (Summit, N.J.) posted one goal and two assists, both on strikes by Rabenold. A free-position goal by
Lara Finnie ended Wheaton's scoring drought with 2:19 left in the frame.

- Rabenold was a factor in all five of the Engineers' goals in the third quarter as she scored twice and earned assists on blasts by Thomas and first-year
Laura Day (Saybrook, Conn.). Smart buried a free-position shot for the visitors' lone goal which came with 3:59 on the clock.

- The Engineers closed out the game with four consecutive goals, including back-to-back strikes by
Monica Petulla.
Avonlea Lebeau netted the final goal of the day with Smart earning the assist.

- Thomas ended the game with four goals and two assists as
Monica Petulla recorded four goals and two groundballs. Flusche finished with three goals, three assists, and seven draw controls while Butler totaled three goals, three caused turnovers, and two groundballs. First-year
Alexa Cohen (Media, Pa.) chipped in two caused turnovers and two groundballs.

Molly Dulde (Delafield, Wis.) made five saves in the first half as first-year
Pauline Vien (Brookline, Mass.) played in net for MIT in the third quarter. First-year
Christina Fradella (Massapequa, N.Y.) closed out the game with one save.

- Lebeau led Wheaton with five draw controls, followed by four from
Jessica Chamberlain.
Ailise Cannon notched three groundballs and two caused turnovers as
Kilee Sherry added two caused turnovers.

- In net,
Katie Geis made five saves in 30 minutes while
Jenna Langan turned away four shots in 25 minutes of action.
Makenna Gilman also appeared in net for five minutes.
