AUSTIN, Texas (June 18) – Juniors Kennedy Adkison (San Jose, Calif.) and Mackenzie Bivin (San Diego, Calif.) of the MIT softball team have been named Third Team Academic All-Americans as the College Sports Communicators (CSC) released its Academic All-American Teams. Adkison becomes the 13th individual All-American while Bivin is the fourth multi-time honoree. Overall, the softball team has produced 19 Academic All-Americans and has had at least two honorees in four straight seasons.
Bivin is one of 11 repeat selections and one of 12 members with a perfect 4.0 GPA. The Business Analytics and Economics major has spent the last two summers interning in the San Diego Padres in their research and development department where she used advanced statistical methods to create player tendency models. She is also a teaching assistant in the MIT Department of Economics and the Sloan School of Management and went to Wales in January where she taught Welsh high school students in a variety of STEM topics. Bivin is also the development coordinator at Camp Kesem. On the field, she concluded the season with a .307 batting average, 43 hits, and 27 RBI. She eclipsed the 100-career hit plateau and set the program record in RBI as she now has 117 in her career. Bivin was named to the NEWMAC Academic All-Conference Team and the NCAA Rowan Regional All-Tournament Team.
Adkison boasts a 3.52 GPA as an Aerospace Engineering major and is currently in the Naval Reserves Officer Training Corps. She is the Battalion Commander of the BU-MIT NROTC Battalion and was the Midshipman of the Semester (Fall 2023) and Midshipman of the Month (November 2021). Adkison is the Battalion Assistant Treasurer Aviation Club Officer and received the Navy Federal Credit Union Scholarship Award. She is also on the Maseeh Hall Executive Council where she has held the positions of President, Vice President, Treasurer, and Formal Committee Chair. Additionally, Adkison is an Orientation Leader, a counselor for Camp Kesem, volunteer aid for Students with Disabilities, and worked in the Global Teaching Labs where she educated Welsh students in a variety of STEM and Aerospace Engineering topics. On the field, she ranked as the 11th hardest player to strikeout in the country as she struck out just twice in 146 at-bats. She finished the year with 50 hits and 24 RBI and scored 23 runs. She was named to the Rowan Regional All-Tournament Team and the NEWMAC Academic All-Conference Team.
