Fiona Lee (Ladera Ranch, Calif.) became the third student-athlete in the history of the MIT women's tennis program to win the main Singles Draw at the MIT Invitational on Sunday. She joined Libby Rickeman '21 and
Katya Shepherd Johnson on this list as they also claimed the singles crown as first-years in 2017 and 2023, respectively. In addition, sophomore
Anastasia Samets (Ocean, N.J.) was the Sportsmanship Award recipient for the Engineers.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- As the No. 4 seed, Lee overpowered top-seeded Deliala Friedman of Amherst College, 6-1, 6-1, in the semifinals.
- In the title match, Lee defeated No. 3 seed Melanie Woodbury of Tufts University, 6-1, 6-2.
