CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – The MIT men's tennis team competed in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) New England Regional on Friday. The day was highlighted by graduate student
Kailas Kahler (Pawtucket, R.I.) advancing to tomorrow's round of 16.
HOW IT HAPPENED - Doubles:
- In the opening round, sophomore Adam Sun (Glendale, Ariz.) and graduate student Joseph Li (Naperville, Ill.) defeated Pierce Garbett and Huasen Dong of Brandeis, 8-1. The team then fell to Max Litton and Max Lustgarten of Wesleyan, 8-5 in the round of 32.
- Sophomores Shrish Choudhary (Fremont, Calif.) and Grant Gallagher (Irvine, Calif.) earned a first-round bye, but fell in the round of 32 to Albert Hu and Ethan Ohm of Amherst, 8-5.
- Following a first-round bye graduate student Kailas Kahler (Pawtucket, R.I.) and sophomore Siddharth Marathe (Pune, India), dropped their round of 32 match to Ed Opie and Sujit Chepuri of Amherst, 8-5.
HOW IT HAPPENED - Singles:
- Senior Ryan Xiao (Cary, N.C.) faced Luca Garbati of Trinity and earned a 6-4, 1-6, 6-1 win in the round of 64. In the round of 32 he faced Nikky Kondamuri of Middlebury
- Kahler, seeded sixth in the tournament, defeated Pierce Garbett of Brandeis 6-1, 6-3 in the opening round. He faced Diego Marin of Williams in the second round and earned a 6-4, 6-1 win.
- Sun took on Jackson Codd of Bowdoin in the opening round and earned a 6-2, 1-6, 6-3 win. He faced Wesleyan's JT Bilski in the second round and fell, 3-6, 7-6 (4), 6-2.
B-Draw
- Gallagher fell to Dong of Brandeis 8-4.
- Choudhary faced Jack Pollock of Bowdoin and fell 8-4.
- Marathe defeated Chase Kasday of Wesleyan, 8-2.
