CAMBRIDGE/MEDFORD, Mass. - Competing at the ITA New England Regional, the MIT men's tennis team saw the doubles team of Tyler Li and Hunter Liao advance to the quarterfinals of doubles play highlighting the event for the Engineers.
HOW IT HAPPENED – Singles 'A' Draw:
- Adam Sun earned a straight set (6-2, 6-3) win over Angelo Guzman of Springfield in the opening round. Sun then fell in a tightly contested 7-5, 7-5 Round of 32 match to George Chaidemenos of Amherst.
- Shrish Choudhary took down Connor Leung of Emerson, 6-1, 6-0. In the round of 32 he dropped a three-set match to Nicholas Chen of Williams, 2-6, 6-2, 6-4.
- Siddharth Marathe fell to Eren Cheung of Tufts, 6-1, 6-2.
HOW IT HAPPENED – Singles 'B' Draw:
- Hunter Liao and Grant Gallagher both earned opening round byes.
- Liao defeated Antonio Lee of Colby, 8-2 while Galllagher fell to Oliver Lorenz of Brandeis, 8-1. Jackson Rich of Tufts defeated Liao 7-6 (7-4), 6-2 in the Round of 16.
- Tyler Li earned an 8-3 win over Luke Riezebeek of Bowdoin in the opening round and followed that up with a win over Max Litton of Wesleyan, 8-7 (7-4). Li fell to Nico Tremblay of Tufts 6-1, 6-2 on Saturday.
HOW IT HAPPENED – Doubles:
- Li and Liao opened play on Friday with an 8-1 win over Diego Sosa and Antonio Lee of Colby. The duo faced Jack Ling and Anthony Lim of Williams and grabbed an 8-1 win to advance to the Round of 16. The duo opened Saturday against Andreas Sillaste and George Chaidemenos of Amherst and earned an 8-6 win, however they fell in the quarterfinals to Alex Ganchev and Sacha of Tufts, 8-2.
- Sun and Gallagher earned a first-round bye and took on Stavros Mastrogamvrakis and Jackson Rich of Tufts. The Jumbos pair earned an 8-3 victory.
- Rushil Patel and Choudhary dropped an 8-2 match in the opening round to Chase Kasday and Ryuto Saito.
