Men's Cross Country Races to 27th-Straight NEWMAC Championship

ATTLEBORO, Mass. – No. 11 MIT men's cross country claimed the program's 27th-straight NEWMAC Championship on Saturday at the Mark Coogan Cross Country Course at Highland Park. This year's 8k NEWMAC title race was hosted by Wheaton College. MIT senior Tim Neumann won the individual title to claim 2025 NEWMAC Runner of the Year honors. In all, MIT swept the top three spots and had seven finishers in the top ten to record a team score of 20 points.

THE BASICS: 

  • Winning Team Score: MIT, 20 points 
  • Top Finisher: Tim Neumann, MIT (25:07.9) 

HOW IT HAPPENED: 

  • Neumann paced the field in 25:07.9, leading a 1-2-3 MIT sweep at the front. 
  • Yichen Sun was four seconds back, finishing as the runner-up 25:11.8, while Renne Cooper took third with a time of 25:13.4. 
  • Landon Hering finished the course in 25:35.3 to take sixth place.
  • First year Sam Hansen was eighth in 25:43.0 to complete MIT's team store. Hansen was also the top first year finisher in the field, earning NEWMAC Rookie of the Year honors. 
  • MIT first year Dylan Fiegener added a ninth-place finish (25:47.4) while senior Jake Cobb was 10th in 25:53.8. 

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:  

  • MIT has won all 27 NEWMAC Championship races since 1998. 
  • Neumann is the 12th straight and 23rd overall runner to earn NEWMAC Runner of the Year honors for MIT. He has now earned NEWMAC All-Conference honors twice in his career 
  • Sun, a two-time NEWMAC Athlete of the Week this season, is now a three-time NEWMAC All-Conference finisher 
  • Cooper, last season's NEWMAC Rookie of the Year, earns NEWMAC All-Conference honors for the second time 
  • Cobb claimed NEWMAC All-Conference for the fourth time in four years. 
  • Hering, Hansen, Fiegener and Rupert each earned All-Conference honors for the first time in their careers. 
  • Hansen is MIT's 15 consecutive and 24th overall NEWMAC Rookie of the Year.
