MARLBOROUGH, Mass. – MIT swept the NEWMAC Women's Volleyball weekly awards for the first time this season as
Claire Underwood was named the Offensive Athlete of the Week and
Daphne Gavros was selected as the Defensive Athlete of the Week for the week ending November 2. This was the second award for Gavros and the first for Underwood in her career.
In a 2-0 week for the No. 15 Engineers, Underwood tallied 21 kills, a .487 hitting percentage, and 11 blocks. She produced nine kills, a .533 hitting performance, and four blocks in a 25-21, 25-17, 25-15 victory at Wellesley College last Tuesday. Underwood followed this up with 12 kills, a .458 hitting effort, and seven blocks in a 25-22, 25-15, 22-25, 25-19 win at Endicott College on Thursday.
Gavros averaged 5.86 digs per set for MIT. She led all players with 20 digs at Wellesley and then generated a match-high 21 digs to go along with five assists against Endicott.
MIT returns to action on Tuesday, November 4 when it hosts NEWMAC rival Smith College at 6:00 PM.
