Sport Shorts Spotlight: Women's Track and Field


The MIT women's track & field team finished with 49 points to win the first NCAA Division III women's track and field national championship in program history on Saturday at the 2025 NCAA Division III Track & Field Championships, hosted by Nazareth University at the Golisano Training Center. Highlights include senior Alexis Boykin repeating as the national champion in the weight throw and shot put, junior Hailey Surace being the runner up in pole vault, and the Distance Medley Relay capturing second place.

Championship Update:
 

Women's Fencing

  • Sophomore Hannah Tao, one of two Division III sabre qualifiers, will represent No. 4 MIT at the NCAA National Collegiate Fencing Championship this Saturday and Sunday at Penn State.

Men's Swimming and Diving

  • No. 9 MIT will have 10 student-athletes competing at the NCAA Division III Swimming and Diving National Championship this Wednesday through Saturday in Greensboro, N.C.

Baseball

  • Junior Owen Malone drove in three runs, including a two-RBI single in the seventh inning, as MIT rallied from an early deficit to defeat Tufts, 10-7, on Wednesday afternoon at Sol Gittleman Park.
  • For the second time in as many games, MIT rallied from an early deficit to earn a victory on the road, this time defeating host Montclair State University, 5-3, to open the MSU Invitational at Yogi Berra Stadium on Friday
  • PSU Harrisburg scored on a wild pitch in the bottom of the eleventh inning to help the Lions defeat MIT, 7-6, on Saturday at the MSU Invitational. .
  • MIT fell to No. 9 Salisbury, 11-0, to wrap up the MSU Invitational on Sunday.
     

Men's Lacrosse 

  • A total of 17 players recorded at least one point as MIT defeated Clark, 20-8, in NEWMAC action on Saturday.
  • Junior Garrett Campagna led the way for the Engineers with five assists, helping him eclipse 100 career points.

 

Women's Lacrosse

  • No. 17 Amherst used a six-goal run that spanned the first and second quarters to create enough of a cushion as it went on to defeat No. 25 MIT, 14-8, on Wednesday night. Junior Nina Petulla totaled two goals, one assist, one draw control, one caused turnover, and one groundball for the Engineers.
  • Two goals during the last 5:35 of action helped Union College hold off No. 25 MIT, 12-8, on Saturday at Jack Barry Field. Junior Annica Lam recorded a hat trick for the Engineers.

 

Sailing

  • MIT competed in three regattas this past weekend, highlighted by a third-place finish at the Women's Southern New England Team Race.

 

Softball

  • MIT opened its season outscoring Simmons, 22-10, as the Engineers earned a doubleheader sweep over the Sharks on Wednesday afternoon at the Daly Field Athletic Complex.
  • MIT split its two games at the Margie Knight Softball Classic, hosted by Salisbury on Saturday afternoon. The Engineers opened the day dropping an 11-1 game to the No. 13 Gulls but rebounded for a 5-4 come-from-behind win in extras over NYU.
  • MIT earned a 4-0 shutout over Susquehanna to open the day but dropped a tough 1-0 decision to Muhlenberg on a walk-off to conclude the Margie Knight Softball Classic, hosted by Salisbury on Sunday afternoon.
     

Men's Tennis

  • No. 25 MIT dropped a closely contested 4-3 match to No. 28 Wesleyan on the road on Friday afternoon.
  • No. 25 MIT blanked Clark 7-0 on the road on Saturday afternoon in the Engineers' NEWMAC opener.

 

Women's Tennis

  • No. 12 MIT fell to No. 14 Tufts, 5-2, on Wednesday. The tightly contested battle had six matches go to a tiebreaker while a trio of singles matches went to three sets.
  • No. 12 MIT defeated Hamilton College, 7-0, in a non-conference women's tennis match on Saturday in the J.B. Carr Tennis Bubble.
     

Men's Track & Field

  • MIT finished in seventh place in the overall team standings at the 2025 NCAA Division III Track & Field Championships on Saturday, hosted by Nazareth University at the Golisano Training Center
  • The Engineers opened the meet by capturing third place in the Distance Medley Relay on Friday.
  • On Saturday, junior Jackson Bliey cleared 2.17m to capture his first indoor national championship in the high jump and second overall as he won the outdoor title in 2024. He is the only high jump national champion in the history of the men's track & field program.
  • Senior Ziyad Hassan added to the All-America tally by placing third in the mile.
     

Women's Track & Field

  • The MIT women's track & field team finished with 49 points to win the first NCAA Division III women's track and field national championship in program history on Saturday at the 2025 NCAA Division III Track & Field Championships, hosted by Nazareth College at the Golisano Training Center.
  • On Friday, senior Alexis Boykin delivered the second best mark in NCAA Division III history in the weight throw, claiming her second consecutive NCAA National Championship in the event. Junior Hailey Surace was the runner up in the pole vault, junior Rujuta Sane captured fifth place in the 5000m, and the Distance Medley Relay secured second place.
  • On Saturday, Boykin won the shot put for the second year in a row with a distance of 15.31m while senior Emily Ball finished sixth. Graduate student Gillian Roeder placed fifth in the mile as junior Kate Sanderson clinched the team title after finishing in sixth place in the 3000m.


Men's Volleyball

  • MIT fell to No. 3 Springfield, 25-11, 25-22, 25-17, on Wednesday.
  • On Saturday, the Engineers defeated Arcadia (25-21, 25-19, 25-22) and Rivier (25-16, 25-16, 25-27, 25-19).
