MIT Men's Volleyball Makes History with First UVC Championship

The No. 19 MIT men's volleyball team made program history this weekend by capturing their first-ever United Volleyball Conference Championship and earning an automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament. The Engineers' historic run began on Saturday afternoon with a 3-1 semifinal victory over No. 9 NYU, fueled by a stellar 22-kill performance from Nate Toth. Advancing to Sunday's title match, MIT faced a grueling test against the top-seeded and No. 7 nationally ranked tournament host, New Paltz. In a thrilling 3-1 upset that featured an incredible 40 ties and 22 lead changes, the Engineers battled back-and-forth to secure the crown. First-year standout Nate Toth was named the tournament MVP after tallying a match-high 18 kills in the championship clash. Making their first NCAA appearance since 2014, MIT will face St. Joseph’s (Long Island) in the Play-in Round of the NCAA Division III Men’s Volleyball Championship on Thursday at Stevens.
