Women’s Lightweight Crew Opens Weekend at Knecht Cup Regatta

CHERRY HILL, N.J. – The MIT women's lightweight crew team opened the weekend at the Knecht Cup Regatta with racing in Doubles and the Novice Four on the Cooper River in Cherry Hill, N.J. MIT advanced to the final in both events with racing to continue to tomorrow in Singles, Pairs, Doubles, Fours, and Eights. 

THE BASICS:

  • Doubles
    • Heat 1: 3rd of 6 (9:37.59)
    • Heat 2: 1st of 6 (8:55.94)
    • Heat 4: 2nd of 6 (9:13.92) 
  • N4+
    • 1st of 5 (10:11.71) in Heat 2

RACE BY RACE: 

  • Doubles
    • Heat 1: First years Lillie Beliveau (Meredith, N.H.) and Ania Kelly (Oyster Bay, N.Y.) finished third in the opening heat, finishing in 9:37.59.
    • Heat 2: Junior Josephine Williams (Darien, Conn.) and first year Calder Shen (Brookline, Mass.) won the second heat by 13.26 over second place Wisconsin, finishing in 8:55.94 to advance to the final.
    • Heat 4: Sophomore Abby Kaplan (Rye, N.Y.) and sophomore Avery Reischer-Craft (North Vancouver, British Columbia) finished second in the fourth heat with a time of 9:13.92. BU was first in 8:58.50.
  • N4+
    • MIT had the top time in Heat 2, finishing ahead of Lafayette by 18.40 seconds with a time of 10:11.71 to advance to the Novice Four Final.
