2025 Student-Athlete Excellence Banquet Award Winners

The 39th annual Student-Athlete Excellence Banquet was held on Wednesday, May 14, in the Johnson Ice Rink to celebrate the accomplishments across DAPER from the 2024-25 season. Below are the award winners from the event.

SAAC SUPERIOR SERVICE AWARD

The SAAC Superior Service Award is presented to a member of the MIT Athletics community who goes above and beyond their job description.

Steve Brennan
Coach Brennan goes above and beyond to make sure that all of our equipment is all set and ready to go whenever it is needed. He is always there for advice on sports, life, and anything in between. His importance to the entire MIT student athlete population is under-appreciated, and I couldn’t think of a better person for this award.

THE VARSITY CLUB AWARD

Given to the outstanding male and female first-year athletes of the year.

The work Grant put in this year paid off in a really big way, breaking several records and earning many NCAA All-American honors. Grant’s work ethic and dedication to the team made an immediate impact on our program this season and we can’t wait to see what’s ahead for Grant next year!

Natalie Barnouw, Women's Soccer
Natalie is the perfect example of a student-athlete. She has been one of the best players in the conference and in DIII women's soccer since her first season. She has won all the awards you can win both as an athlete and scholar-athlete. And yet she is humble, hardworking and a great teammate. She loves the game of soccer, and she puts in the work to be successful and to help those around her be successful as well.

Before earning his first national title, Jackson said he was going to win, and he did. He works toward what he wants to accomplish and backs it up. He is not afraid to learn and to try.

THE BETSY SCHUMACKER WOMAN ATHLETE OF THE YEAR AWARD

Presented annually for excellence in athletic competition by a female undergraduate.

Alexis Boykin - The Betsy Schumacker Woman Athlete of the Year Award recipient
Alexis Boykin, Women's Track and Field
Alexis is a once-in-a-generation athlete, she is the best of the best, Division I, II, or III, she contends with them all. Alexis is quiet, calm, confident, and she is a force. Unassuming and focused, Alexis can critique herself and others without being critical. She can analyze her performance in a way that leads to growth and production, not frustration, which is hard to do. All of this allows Alexis to stand on the foundation she has built and strive for greatness, which she is not afraid to seek, also hard to do.
