LOUISVILLE, K.Y. – The MIT softball team set a program-record with seven National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) All-Region Honors, the second most in Division III behind only Rowan, which placed a program-max eight players on the All-Region team. First year Delaney Benevides (Plainville, Mass.) was also named a finalist for the NFCA National Rookie of the Year, becoming the second Engineer (Mackenzie Bivin, 2022) to be named a Rookie of the Year Finalist.
Benevides, juniors Caroline Langmeyer (San Diego, Calif.) and Ava Ladd (Austin, Texas), and senior Mikayla Cable (Valrico, Fla.) were named First Team All-Region while senior Mackenzie Bivin and junior Olivia Scarpaci (Staten Island, N.Y.) were voted to the second team. First year Layla Thiessen (Carlsbad, Calif.) earned third team honors.
Delaney Benevides
- First All-Region Honor
- NEWMAC Rookie of the Year and First Team All-Conference
- Led the team with a .449 batting average and a program-record 34 stolen bases
- Recorded 18 multi-hit games
Caroline Langmeyer
- Third All-Region Honor (Second Team in 2023, 2024)
- Finished the year 18-3 with a 2.01 ERA
- Struck out 88 batters and threw 14 complete games
- Tossed four shutouts
Ava Ladd
- Second All-Region Honor (Second Team in 2023)
- Led the team with 38 RBI (third most in a single season)
- Hit .386 with eight doubles, six triples and four homers
- Made just one error in 80 chances at third base
Mikayla Cable
- Third All-Region Honor (First Team - 2024, Third Team - 2023)
- Finished with a .364 batting average with seven doubles, one triple and four homers
- Became just second player in program history to collect 100 RBI (finished with 109)
- Knocked in 27 runs and scored 34.
Mackenzie Bivin
- Third All-Region Honor (First Team - 2023, Second Team - 2022)
- Ends career as program leader in home runs, RBI, and doubles
- Hit 13 doubles and four homers
- Scored 36 runs and stole seven bases
Olivia Scarpaci
- First All-Region Honor
- Made no errors behind the plate while throwing out 13 would-be base stealers
- Hit six home runs (second most in a single season in program history)
- Knocked in 25 runs and scored 24
Layla Thiessen
- First All-Region Honor
- Stole 29 bases on 30 attempts
- Hit .388 with five doubles, four triples and one home run
- Made no errors in 34 chances in left field
All honorees move forward to be considered for selection for the three NFCA Division III All-America squads, which will be announced May 28 online and on-site at the NCAA Division III Finals banquet in Bloomington, Ill.
