Women’s Lightweight Crew Starts Strong at Dad Vail Regatta

PENNSAUKEN, NJ — The MIT women's lightweight crew team advanced six boats to the Grand Finals on the opening day of the 2025 Jefferson Dad Vail Regatta on Friday on the Cooper River.

THE BASICS:

  • 1x:
    • Time Trial: 4th of 10
    • Semi-Finals: DNS
  • 2V4+: 
    • Time Trial: 5th and 6th of 9
    • Semi-Finals: 1st of 4, 3rd of 5
  • 4x:
    • Time Trial: 2nd of 5
  • V4+
    • Time Trial: 1st of 10
    • Semi-Finals: 1st of 6
  • 2x:
    • Time Trial: 2nd and 5th of 10
    • Semi-Finals: 2nd of 4; 1st of 6

RACE BY RACE: 

  • 1x:
    • Time Trial: Emily Knapp finished 4th of 10 in 09:09.380 to advance to the Semi-Final.
    • Semi-Finals: Knapp did not race in the semi-final.
  • 2V4+: 
    • Time Trial: MIT's 'A' and 'B' boats finished fifth and sixth, respectively. The A boat, stroked by Liane Xu, was fifth in 08:31.660 and the B boat, stroked by Kendall Jacobsmeyer was sixth in 08:32.100. 
    • Semi-Finals: The 'A' boat advanced to the semi-final, where they finished first in their heat in 7:52.025 to advance to Sunday's Grand Final. The 'B' boat was third in the second semi-final, finishing in 08:30.821 to secure the final spot in the Grand Final on Sunday.
  • 4x:
    • Time Trial: MIT's 4x had the second fastest time, finishing in 7:54.106 to advance directly to Sunday's 4x Grand Final.
  • V4+
    • Time Trial: The V4 with bow Yagmur Kavukcuoglu was first of ten in 07:19.704 to advance to the semi-finals.
    • Semi-Finals: MIT paced the field in the first semi-final, winning the heat in 07:34.231 and advanced to Sunday's grand final.
  • 2x:
    • Time Trial: MIT's 'A' boat of Avery Reischer-Craft and Katherine Wei finished in second in 07:43.350. MIT's 'B' boat of Ania Kelly and Grace DeMartino was fifth in 08:15.200. Both boats advanced to the semi-finals. 
    • Semi-Finals: The B boat was the runner-up the first heat in 08:58.305 while the A boat took the top spot in the second Semi in 8:07.391.

  • Racing continues on Saturday, with MIT six boats competing in four grand finals:
    • The V4+ will race for the Margaret McNiff Trophy at 8:12 AM.
    • Both 2x boats will race in the 2x Grand Final at 8:44 AM.
