CAMBRIDGE, Mass. — The MIT men's heavyweight and lightweight crew teams combined to earn 35 Empacher-Intercollegiate Rowing Coaches Association (IRCA) Scholar Athlete awards during the 2024-2025 academic year.

MIT was third among all IRCA programs with 35 honorees. Princeton University had the highest number of honorees from one program with 41 combined scholar-athletes from their heavyweight and lightweight teams. The Tigers were followed by Georgetown with 36, MIT with 35, and Yale with 33.

Athletes from all IRCA Member Schools are eligible. To be named a "scholar athlete,"rowers and coxswains must be in their second year or more of eligibility, have competed in their program's top three boats during the  season or raced at the IRA Championship, and have, at least, a 3.50 cumulative GPA (4.0 scale) through the fall semester.
