MARLBOROUGH, Mass. - MIT women's swimming and diving junior Sydney Smith was named the NEWMAC Swimmer of the Week for the week ending January 19. This is the second swimmer of the week award for Smith in her career.
Smith won the 100 back and finished second in the 100 Fly in the No. 5 MIT women's swimming and diving meet against Division I Boston University. She was also a member of two relay teams, the 200 Medley Relay which captured second, and the 200 Free which finished first. In the 100 back, Smith swam a 55.07 which is the eighth-fastest time in Division III this season. In the 100 fly she posted a time of 54.77 which is the fourth best time in the nation this season.
Smith and the rest of the Engineers are back in the pool for a busy weekend of top-25 competition. MIT will welcome No. 2 NYU and No. 8 Williams to the Zesiger Pool on Friday, January 23 for a 2:00 PM meet and the following day, No. 9 Tufts will make the trip for a 1:00 PM start.
