Men’s Lightweight Crew Shows Team Depth at Annual Head Of The Charles Regatta

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. -- The MIT men's lightweight crew team finished eighth in the Lightweight Eights and tenth in the Club Eights at the 2026 Head Of The Charles Regatta on the Charles River. Crews contended with blustery conditions on Saturday and raced in perfect fall conditions, low wind, and sunshine on Sunday.

The MIT lineups featured several new faces following the departure of last season's record-breaking senior class. The Engineers will look to build on this weekend's performance moving through the fall and into the spring.

The MIT 2V put in a strong early season performance with great steering from first year coxswain Anna Kim and first year stroke Apollo Andreichuk leading the boat to a time of 15:46.416. The crew pushed well throughout the course, nearly passing Riverfront Recapture, the crew directly ahead of them. "I'm thrilled with this boat's performance," said Gerrit Zwart '62 Men's Varsity Lightweight Crew Coach, Will Oliver-Milchman. "They essentially matched our best performance in this event, and we've got a lot of room to grow."

The Engineers finished eighth (14:27.027), ahead of Queen's University in ninth (15:03.072) and behind Georgetown in seventh (14:14.581). MIT, racing with Bow 4, was passed on the course by a very fast crew from Dartmouth, Bow 5, and pushed to the outside around the Elliott Bridge turn. "That cost us some time, and I don't know if it made a difference in our place," noted Oliver-Milchman. "But we certainly would have been faster with a cleaner line."
