Men's Lightweight Crew Sees 16 Earn Empacher-IRCA Scholar Athlete Recognition

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. — Sixteen members of the MIT men's lightweight crew team have earned recognition from the Intercollegiate Rowing Coaches Association (IRCA) as 2026 Empacher-IRCA Scholar Athletes.

In order to be named a "scholar athlete", rowers and coxswains must be in their second year or more of eligibility, have competed in their program's top 3 boats during the current season or raced at the 2026 IRA Championship, and have, at least, a 3.50 cumulative GPA through fall semester. Athletes from all IRCA Member Schools are eligible.

There were 705 rowers and coxswains who met the criteria set by our Awards & Polling Committee, they represent 57 teams (32 heavyweight, 8 lightweight, and 17 Division 3) from 49 member programs.
