No. 30 Men's Tennis Grabs Wins Over Clark and Colby

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - The No. 30 MIT men's tennis team earned a 7-0 NEWMAC win over Clark and followed with a 5-2 win over Colby in Saturday action in the J.B. Carr Tennis Bubble. 
 
THE BASICS:

  • Records: MIT 3-2 Overall (1-0 NEWMAC), Clark 9-2 Overall (0-1 NEWMAC), Colby 2-2 Overall 

HOW IT HAPPENED vs. CLARK: 

  • The Engineers won their NEWMAC opener handily as they did not drop a set to the visiting Cougars.  
  • Adam Sun and Grant Gallagher defeated Edward Shepherd and Grahm Russo 6-4 in No. 1 doubles. 
  • Shrish Choudhary and SangHyuk Im took down Aris Kirkorian and Ziad Tabbara 6-1 in No. 2 doubles, and Nicholas Liu and Jeremy Yu earned a 6-3 in No. 3 doubles over Sai Chanda and Benjamin Liu. 
  • Hunter Liao defeated Sheperd, 6-2, 6-2 in the one position while Hunter Li followed with a 6-0, 6-0 win over Tabbara in No. 2. 
  • Siddharth Marathe took a 6-4, 6-2 win in No. 3 singles while Im defeated Russo, 6-3, 7-5 in the fourth position. 
  • Rushil Patel took down Liu in No. 5 singles, 6-4, 6-2, and Henry Feldman earned a 6-2, 6-2 win in the sixth position. 

HOW IT HAPPENED vs. COLBY: 

  • MIT grabbed the doubles point as Li and Liao took a 6-1 win in No. 2 doubles followed by a 6-2 win by Choudhary and Im in No. 3 doubles. Colby got a win in No. 1 doubles. 
  • Marathe got the first singles win with a 6-1, 6-1 win in the fourth position over Marco Ziets-Segura and Liao made it a 3-0 MIT lead with a 7-5, 6-1 win in No. 2 singles over Bilal Asim.  
  • Jason Daly got Colby on the board with a 7-5, 6-4 win in the top singles court. Rhys Spanos got the second Mules point with a 7-6 (7-1) - 7-6 (7-5) win over Choudhary in No. 3 singles. 
  • In No. 5 singles, Li took a 6-1, 6-2 win over Matthew Jeong for the clinching point for MIT.  
  • Gallagher wrapeped up the day with a 6-1, 6-2 win in six singles. 

UP NEXT: 

  • The Engineers remain at home as they will open up NEWMAC play on Saturday, March 14 when they welcome Clark to Cambridge for a 1:00 PM match followed by a 4:00 PM match against Colby.
