No. 8 Women’s Tennis Blanks Clark, 7-0, in NEWMAC Opener

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – The No. 8 MIT women's tennis team conceded only three games in a 7-0 victory over Clark University in the NEWMAC opener for both squads on Saturday at the J.B. Carr Tennis Bubble.

THE BASICS:

Records: No. 8 MIT (4-1 Overall, 1-0 NEWMAC); Clark (5-4 Overall, 0-1 NEWMAC)

HOW IT HAPPENED - DOUBLES:

Carley Chen and Chloe Zeng defeated Larkin Gardinier and Merielle Kane, 6-0, in the No. 2 position.
Katie Driscoll and Anastasia Samets claimed the doubles point courtesy of a 6-0 victory over Olivia Shipley and Amanda Keith in the No. 3 spot.
After trading games to start the match, Alaina Kolli and Artemis Pados went on to register a 6-1 win against Varvara Maltseva and Marcela Gonyea.

HOW IT HAPPENED - SINGLES:

Nishi Gandra topped Shipley, 6-0, 6-0, in the No. 4 slot.
Anselma Petrie defeated Chau Quach, 6-0, 6-0, in the No. 6 position.
Saina Deshpande clinched the match with a 6-0, 6-0 decision against Maltseva at the top of the ladder.
In the No. 3 spot, Rayna Li posted a 6-1, 6-0 win over Gonyea.
Sophia Yang overpowered Gardinier, 6-0, 6-0 in the No. 2 position.
Alicen Liu completed the sweep with a 6-1, 6-0 victory against Kane in the No. 5 slot.

UP NEXT:

MIT will host Emerson College on Friday, March 20. The match will be played either outdoors at 3:00 PM or indoors at 4:00 PM.
Clark will host Wheaton College on Saturday, March 21 at 2:00 PM.
