CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – In its return to NEWMAC play, the No. 7 MIT women's tennis team defeated Salve Regina University, 7-0, on Tuesday afternoon at the DuPont Tennis Courts.
 
THE BASICS:

• Score: No. 7 MIT 7, Salve Regina 0
• Records: No. 7 MIT (12-2 Overall, 5-0 NEWMAC); Salve Regina (4-10 Overall, 1-5 NEWMAC)

HOW IT HAPPENED - DOUBLES:

• Artemis Pados and Alaina Kolli defeated Anna Grace Hjerpe and Kaydin Pinto, 6-0, at the No. 1 spot.
• In the No. 2 position, Katie Driscoll and Anastasia Samets followed with a 6-0 win over Madigan Murphy and Sadie Rieg, capturing the doubles point.
• Anselma Petrie and Rayna Li completed the doubles sweep as they topped Stephanie Davis and Cayla Dolan, 6-0.

HOW IT HAPPENED - SINGLES:

• Li defeated Hjerpe, 6-0, 6-0, in the No. 3 slot.
• At No. 6 singles, Petrie won four games in a row to take the first set, 6-2, against Rieg. Petrie carried the momentum into the second set as she recorded a 6-0 decision.
• Saina Deshpande clinched the match with a 6-0, 6-1 victory versus Pinto at the top of the ladder.
• Driscoll topped Davis, 6-0, 6-0, in the No. 2 position.
• In the No. 4 slot, Samets recorded a 6-2, 6-0 win over Murphy.
• Pados wrapped up the match with a 6-0, 6-0 decision against Sophia Padro in the No. 5 spot.

UP NEXT:

• Both teams will host NEWMAC matches on Saturday, April 18 at 12:00 PM. MIT will face No. 43 Smith College while Salve Regina will take on No. 34 Wellesley College.
