ANNAPOLIS, Md. -- In a match up of the nation's top-two ranked crews, No. 1 Harvard defeated the No. 2 MIT men's lightweight crew team in the varsity eight race to retain the Haines Cup on Saturday on a sunny day with a slight cross/quartering headwind on the Severn River.  

VARSITY EIGHT (V8+):  

• Results: 2nd of 3 (5:55.8) 
• Lineup: C. Jane Atkinson; 8. Harry Sillifant; 7. Ryosei Tanakamaru; 6. Lucas Young; 5. Daniel Kurlander; 4. Jude Carroll; 3. Jonathan Dase; 2. Kieran Dunn; 1. Milon Kalia 
• Harvard (5:51.0) and MIT (5:55.8) both out-stroked host Navy (6:05.2) but it was the Crimson that had the edge on the Engineers, as the local rivals matched up for the first time this season. Harvard also retained the Col. Paulovich Points Trophy for its total victories over Navy on the day. 

SECOND VARSITY EIGHT (2V8+):  

• Results: 3rd of 3 (6:18.7) 
• Lineup: C. Gavin Ng; 8. Robert Romani; 7. Eric Chung; 6. Dean Bittker; 5. Will Savage; 4. Zachary Troeller; 3. Trent Lee; 2. Christopher Hom; 1. Diego Gonzalez 
• The Crimson (6:00.5) ran away the 2V8+ race, winning by over 11 seconds ahead of second place Navy (6:11.6). MIT was third in 6:18.7.
