MARLBOROUGH, Mass. – For the second time this season, No. 8 MIT swept the NEWMAC Women's Tennis weekly awards.
Saina Deshpande collected her second Singles Athlete of the Week selection of the year while the duo of
Alaina Kolli and
Artemis Pados were tabbed for Doubles Team of the Week honors for the second straight week.
In a 2-0 week for the Engineers, Deshpande clinched both matches from the No. 1 singles position. Last Tuesday in a 7-0 win against Salve Regina University, she recorded a 6-0, 6-1 victory. Deshpande then generated a 6-2, 6-1 result on Saturday in a 7-0 decision versus No. 52 Smith College.
In the No. 1 doubles position, Kolli and Pados also had a 2-0 week for MIT. Against Salve Regina, they posted the first win of the match with a 6-0 decision. Kolli and Pados followed this up by capturing the doubles point courtesy of another 6-0 victory versus No. 52 Smith.
The No. 8 Engineers to action on Tuesday, April 21 when they travel to NEWMAC foe Springfield College for a 3:30 PM match.
