No. 8 Women’s Tennis Downs Springfield, 7-0

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – In NEWMAC women's tennis action on Tuesday afternoon, No. 8 MIT topped Springfield College, 7-0.

THE BASICS:

HOW IT HAPPENED - DOUBLES:

Rayna Li and Sophia Yang opened the match by defeating Kelly McGoldrick and Ava Shea, 6-0, at No. 3 doubles.
MIT claimed the doubles point when Katie Driscoll and Anastasia Samets topped Erica Jud and Alyssa Elliott, 6-0, in the No. 2 spot.
Artemis Pados and Alaina Kolli completed the sweep with a 6-0 decision against Jomkwan Vettayawaikoon and Natalia Peyon.

HOW IT HAPPENED - SINGLES:

In the No. 4 position, Samets defeated McGoldrick, 6-0, 6-0.
Anselma Petrie followed with a 6-0, 6-1 win over Shea in the No. 6 slot.
Trailing Jud 3-2 in the first set at No. 2 singles, Carley Chen rattled off four wins in a row to capture the come-from-behind victory. She carried the momentum into the second set as she posted a 6-0 decision, which clinched the match.
Li topped Elliott, 6-0, 6-1, in the No. 3 spot.
Nishi Gandra picked up the next point for the Engineers courtesy of a 6-1, 6-2 victory against Peyon in the No. 5 position.
Tied at 2-2 in the first set at the top of the ladder, Saina Deshpande generated four consecutive wins to defeat Vettayawaikoon. Facing a 3-1 deficit in the second set, Deshpande rallied for a 6-3 victory.

MIT will wrap up the NEWMAC regular season on Saturday, April 25 when it travels to No. 6 Babson College for a 12:00 PM match.
