Men's Tennis Drops 6-1 Non-Conference Match to No. 18 Amherst

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - The MIT men's tennis team dropped a mid-week non-conference match to No. 18 Amherst, 6-1 on Thursday afternoon. 

THE BASICS: 

  • Score: Amherst 6, MIT 1 
  • Records: MIT (11-7 Overall); No. 18 Amherst (10-5) 

HOW IT HAPPENED: 

  • The Engineers took the doubles points with wins in courts one and two. Tyler Li and Hunter Liao took down Lukas Frangenberg and Andreas Sillaste, 6-3 while Rushil Patel and Siddharth Marathe earned a 7-6 win over Albert Hu and Ronald James Gualario. 
  • In singles play, the Mammoth swept courts one-four and court six. 
  • In court five, Grant Gallagher fell to Rex Harrison 6-0 in the opening set, but rallied to take the second by a 6-4 score. In the decisive third set Harrison came away with the 6-4 win. 

UP NEXT: 

  • MIT opens up the NEWMAC Tournament with a semifinal matchup against Springfield on Friday, April 24 at 3:00 PM against Springfield on the DuPont Tennis Courts.
