Varsity Four Earns Silver to Lead No. 4 Men’s Lightweight Crew at Eastern Sprints

WORCESTER, Mass. -- The varsity four claimed the silver medal to lead the No. 4 men's lightweight crew team on Sunday at Eastern Sprints on Lake Quinsigamond. The varsity eight finished sixth in the grand final, matching the team's finish from last season.

VARSITY EIGHT (V8+):

MIT finished third (05:53.625) in its opening heat to advance to the grand final. The Engineers were comfortably ahead of fourth place Georgetown (05:58.591) and just off the pace established by heat winner Penn (05:50.555) and runner-up Cornell (5:51.269). MIT came in sixth in the grand final in a tight field where less than ten seconds separated champion Harvard (05:46.779) from the Engineers.

SECOND VARSITY EIGHT (2V8+):

Results: Heat 1: 5th of 5 (06:04.269) - Advanced to Petite Final; Petite Final: 4th of 4 (6:20.303) - 10th Overall

The second varsity finished fifth (06:04.269) in a competitive morning heat and moved to the petite final in the afternoon. The Engineers took fourth (6:20.303) in the petite final but were less than five seconds back of first place Columbia (6:15.675).

VARSITY FOUR (V4+):

Results: 2nd of 4 (07:14.050) - SILVER

Columbia earned an open water victory in the varsity four grand final, but MIT (07:14.050) took home a hard-earned silver in a battle for second with Dartmouth (07:15.716).

UP NEXT:

The eights will prepare for the IRA National Championship on Lake Natoma in Gold River, Calif., May 29-31 where MIT will look to build on its program-best third-place finish in the lightweight eights at last year's championship.
