No. 4 Men’s Lightweight Crew Tops No. 9 Cornell

ITHACA, N.Y. -- The No. 4 MIT men's lightweight crew team earned victories in the first and second varsity eights on Saturday on the Cayuga Inlet. Racing in an 8 mph headwind, the Engineers earned a pair of two-second victories over the Big Red.

VARSITY EIGHT (V8+):

Results: 1st of 2 (6:06.5)

MIT held off Cornell over the 2000m course to win the first varsity race. Despite slightly choppier conditions building over the second half of the course, the Engineers won with a time of 6:06.5, with Cornell in second in 6:08.3.

SECOND VARSITY EIGHT (2V8+):

Results: 1st of 2 (6:26.4)

The second eights race was like the first varsity, with MIT finishing in 6:26.4, just under two seconds ahead of Cornell's time of 6:28.2.

THIRD VARSITY EIGHT (3V8+):

Results: 2nd of 2 vs Penn Heavyweight 5V8+ (6:56.0)

MIT will be off next weekend before competing at Eastern Sprints on May 17 on Lake Quinsigamond in Worcester. Eastern Sprints is the team's final competition prior to the IRA National Championship on Lake Natoma in Gold River, Calif.
