MARLBOROUGH, Mass. – MIT's
Sabine Smith was named the NEWMAC Women's Volleyball Offensive Athlete of the Week for the week ending September 20. This is the first time she has received this award.
In a 2-1 weekend for the No. 5 Engineers at the NYU Mid-September Invitational, Smith registered 50 kills (4.55 per set) and a .327 hitting percentage. She opened the tournament with 15 kills and five digs in a 10-25, 25-22, 25-16, 26-24 loss to No. 11 Ithaca College. Smith then had a match-high 16 kills to go along with four digs, an ace, and a block in a 25-12, 25-23, 17-25, 25-22 win over Wentworth Institute of Technology before wrapping up the weekend with a match-high 19 kills, a .395 hitting percentage, four digs, two blocks, and an ace in a 25-21, 19-25, 25-20, 25-18 victory against NYU.
MIT returns to action on Tuesday, September 22 when it hosts WPI in the NEWMAC opener for both teams at 6:00 PM in Rockwell Cage.
