Tech Picks up Win over Williams and Moravian

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – The MIT men's track and field team welcomed regional rival Williams College as well as Moravian College in a tri-meet on its home track on Saturday. The Engineers picked up wins in nine of 18 events, including all the races between 600 and 3000 meters, to earn 186.5 points and beat out Williams, which finished with 110.

Kyle Hannon was one of the top performers for the Cardinal and Gray, winning at both 1000 meters and the mile. Hannon helped MIT take six of the top seven spots in the 1000m, beating teammate Dawit Zewdie (2:35.80) to the finish by 0.83 seconds. Hannon followed that up with an easy win in the mile, coming through in 4:16.90 more than four seconds faster than runner-up Logan Trimble.

Patrick Marx was a winner in the 600m with a time of 1:23.69. His teammates Logan Daum, Gilbert O'Neil and Mac Gager followed up in third, fourth and sixth respectively. Other events wins came from David Way (1:58.25) in the 800 and Paul Welle (8:46.91) at 3000 meters.

MIT also swept the relays, as Daniel Ronde, Gager, Nicholas Leonard and Jacob Jurweicz outlasted the Moravian squad in the 4x400. Zewdie, Trimble, Marx and Richard Prevost then teamed up to break eight minutes in the 4x800m, nearly six seconds faster than the group from Williams.

Despite not winning any of the sprints, Tech still managed to pick up quality points in those events, taking second and third in the 55m, second, fourth and fifth in the 200 and second, third and fourth at 400 meters.

In the throws, Kenneth Cooper set a pair of personal records, taking first in the shot put (47-4.50 feet) and second in the weight throw (57-9.75)

The Engineers will once again split their squad between Boston University and MIT next weekend, as some competitors will take part in the Valentine's Meet at BU while others will be at home for the second Coed Invite of the season.
