Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

CLERMONT, Fla. – The MIT softball team had a very successful day on Tuesday, defeating Indiana Tech, 5-0, and St. Thomas (Minn.), who is ranked No. 16 in the country for Division III, with a score of 2-1. The Engineers, who have just one more day and two more games left in sunny Florida, are now 5-4 for the season and 3-4 for Spring Trip.

Against Indiana Tech, MIT took an early 2-0 lead at the bottom of the first when sophomore Sarah Van Belleghem (Los Gatos, Calif.) and freshman Alexandra Marshall (Glen Head, N.Y.) scored off an error by the first baseman that also allowed sophomore Ellie Fodor (Trenton, Mich.) to reach first.

The score remained at 2-0 until the bottom of the fifth, when MIT scored three more runs. Off a triple by senior Leah Alpert (Needham, Mass.), Fodor and freshman Tori Jensen (Holliston, Mass.) each scored a run. Alpert scored the final run in the game, ending the game with a score of 10-5.

Fodor took the win in this game, allowing only one hit and striking out six. She is now 3-2.

St. Thomas took the lead at the bottom of the second inning of the second game when Emily Gregory scored the first run of the game. The score remained at 2-0 until the top of the sixth, when Van Belleghem and senior Anna Christensen (Vernon Hills, Ill.) added two runs for MIT after a double by Jensen. With St. Thomas unable to make up the difference, the game ended with a score of 2-1 in MIT's favor.

Marshall pitched the entire second game, allowing only three hits, one run and striking out 11. She is now 2-2 during her first collegiate season.

On the Engineers' final day in Florida on Wednesday, they will face Oberlin at 9:00 p.m. and the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point at 11:00 a.m. before returning to MIT.
