CLERMONT, Fla. – On its final day in Florida before returning to chilly New England, the MIT softball team won its games against Oberlin College, 3-2, and the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point, 5-0, with both games going to eight innings. The Engineers ended their Spring Trip with a record of 5-4, bringing their season record to 7-4.

Against Oberlin, MIT came from behind to take the win. The Yeowomen scored back-to-back runs within minutes of the start of the game at the top of the first, giving them an early lead and forcing the Engineers to play catch up. MIT were held at zero until the bottom of the fifth, when freshman Alexandra Marshall (Glen Head, N.Y.) scored the first run of the day off a double by senior Anna Christensen (Vernon Hills, Ill.). Off a triple by freshman Tori Jensen (Holliston, Mass.), Christensen scored the second run.

With the score tied at 2-2 at the bottom of the seventh, the game went into extra innings. Oberlin were unable to score at the top of the eighth, putting MIT at bat. After sophomore Ellie Fodor (Trenton, Mich.) was walked and senior Leah Alpert (Needham, Mass.) hit a double, Christensen scored her second run of the day, giving the Engineers the run they needed to end the game with a victory.

Throughout the game, Fodor struck out 11 batters, allowing eight hits and two runs.

A scoreless seven innings in the second game against the Pointers sent the game into extra innings, where the Engineers' offense exploded. MIT scored five runs on five hits at the top of the eighth, which was all it needed to win the game. Off singles by Christensen and Marshall, sophomore Sarah Van Belleghem (Los Gatos, Calif.) was the first of the Engineers to make it home.

Christensen and Marshall added two more runs when Fodor reached first on an error by the right fielder. Alpert doubled, allowing Fodor to score, and added the fifth run off a single by sophomore K.K. Wopat (Edwardsville, Ill.).

At the mound, Marshall struck out 12 batters and held the Pointers to just one hit the entire game.

MIT wastes no time in returning to the diamond, opening NEWMAC play when it faces Coast Guard at home on Friday at 3:00 and 5:00 p.m.
