THE BASICS:

- The Lead: At the Boston University Season Opener indoor meet, graduate student Matthew Deyo (Syracuse, N.Y.) ran the fastest time in the nation and set the MIT school record in the 5,000 meters to lead the Engineers in their first indoor meet of the season.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Deyo, an All-American in the cross country season, won his section and finished eighth overall in a time of 14:26.55 to break the MIT school record by a 3.53-second margin. Sophomore Dennis Maloney (New Albany, Ohio) was 11th overall, third in his section and second in Division 3 nationally as he crossed in a time of 14:40.38. Senior Rory Beyer (San Mateo, Calif.) also finished in the top 20 overall as he was 19th in a time of 15:02.88, which ranks him eighth nationally among Division 3 runners.
- Sophomore Aidan Gilson (Florence, Mass.) finished in ninth overall in the 3,000 meters in a time of 8:53.06, which ranks him 11th in the country in Division 3.
UP NEXT:
- MIT returns to action on Saturday, January 14th as the Engineers host Bates and Colby for a meet beginning at 1 p.m. The team is also holding its Alumni Meet, which will take place on January 7th beginning at Noon.
