THE BASICS:
- Location: Johnson Athletic Center - Cambridge, Mass.
- The Lead: In a tri-meet on Saturday at the Johnson Athletic Center, the No. 2 ranked MIT men's indoor track and field team defeated both Bates and Colby as the Engineers totaled 178 points at the event. Bates was second with 125 points, followed by Colby with 59 points.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Junior Tre Albritten (Plano, Texas) picked up a pair of victories as he captured both the 60 and 200 meter races. After crossing in a time of 7.07 in the 60, Albritten ran a victorious time of 22.40 in the 200, which currently ranks fourth nationally in Division III.
- Sophomore Dennis Maloney (New Albany, Ohio) posted the top time in the nation in the 3,000 meters on Saturday as he won the event in a personal-best time of 8:32.17. That time broke his previous top time by over 18 seconds.
- In the field, freshman Alec Reduker (Newburyport, Mass.) continued his solid rookie campaign as he won the high jump with a leap of six feet, eight inches as that is currently 10th in the country. Senior Arinze Okeke (Hawthorne, Calif.) picked up victories in both the long jump and triple jump to kick off his season. In the triple, his leap of 48 feet, 11 inches currently ranks third nationally, while he also captured the long jump with a jump of 22 feet, 5.75 inches. His long jump distance is currently 19th nationally. The Engineers earned a sweep of the top three spots in the pole vault, led by sophomore Scott Cameron (Dublin, Ohio) and his winning vault height of 14 feet, 5.25 inches.
- In the distance medley relay, the team of freshman Vilhelm Anderson Woltz (Logan, Ohio), freshman Daniel Sun (Irvine, Calif.), sophomore Nathan Munet (Elkhart, Ind.) and sophomore Josh Rosenkranz (Glencoe, Ill.) crossed in 10:46.34 to win the event and currently rank third nationally in Division III.
- Freshman Tyndale Hannan (Dublin, Ohio) earned the win in the 600 with a time of 1:23.84, while sophomore Aidan Gilson (Florence, Mass.) captured the mile in a winning time of 4:23.68. Gilson's time currently ranks 22nd nationally.
UP NEXT:
- MIT returns to action on Saturday, January 21st as the Engineers travel to Brunswick, Maine for the Bowdoin Invitational. That meet is scheduled for a 12:30 p.m. start.
