Men's Track and Field Hosts Last Chance Qualifier

THE BASICS:

- Location: Cambridge, Mass. (Sherie and Don Morrison Track at Steinbrenner Stadium)

- The Lead: At the MIT Last Chance Meet on Thursday night at the Sherie and Don Morrison Track, the Engineers had three individual victories in the meet that took place in 95-degree temperatures in Cambridge.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

- In the 3,000-meter steeplechase, junior Ben Freed (Frederick, Md.) picked up the win as he crossed in a time of 9:29.48. Junior Tre Albritten (Plano, Texas) made his outdoor debut in the 200 meters on Thursday as he crossed in a time of 21.61 seconds in the 200 meters. Senior Danny Newman (St. Charles, Ill.) finished fourth in the 200 in 22.11, while senior Colin Godwin (Cary, N.C.) was third in the 1,500 meters in a time of 3:51.60.

- In the field events, freshman Bobby Upton (Wexford, Pa.) won the pole vault with a clearance of 15 feet, 9.25 inches. The Engineers also picked up third-place finishes in the high jump, discus and the triple jump, along with a sixth-place showing in the hammer throw. Freshman Chris Washington (Frisco, Texas) was third in the high jump at six feet, 5.5 inches, while junior Cody Bratten (Highlands Ranch, Colo.) threw 159 feet, seven inches in the discus and junior Jason Villanueva (Hesperia, Calif.) posted a leap of 46 feet, 5.25 inches in the triple jump. Sophomore Jon Fakkema (Blaine, Wash.) finished sixth in the hammer throw on Thursday, throwing a distance of 171 feet, 11 inches.

- MIT returns to action on May 25-27 as the Engineers travel to the 2017 NCAA Division III Outdoor Championship at the SPIRE Institute in Geneva, Ohio.
